Nestled in the foothills of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is culturally the most significant city in North Thailand. Being a sanctuary, the pace here is laid-back, and the landscape is picturesque. It is a fine urban specimen with a captivating blend of ancient temples, modern malls, evergreen rainforests and markets teeming with people; for sightseers, nature buffs and city connoisseurs.
Arrival at Chiang Mai, the second largest city in Thailand, spends the day at leisure as no activities have been planned for the day. Arrival transfer is by own arrangement. Overnight stay at the Hotel.
There will be a pick up at 8.30-9am to take you to explore the wondrous and holy temple of Wat Phra That, which is located near the top of Doi Suthep, Doi meaning Mount. Along the 45 minute scenic and winding mountainous drive to Doi Suthep, lies the impressive 300-step Naga stairway. The beautiful temple and the fantastic panoramic view of the city will leave you spellbound. We return back to the hotel by 11am.
At 1.30pm we have a bicycle fitting and safety briefing session, before heading out into the streets of Chiang Mai. We journey south, following the Ping River downstream, taking in the evocative sight of the endless rice fields. You will be one with nature, away from the bustling city of Chiang Mai. Cycling over small country roads, past different fruit plantations, you will discover the real rural Thailand and the way of life of the natives, as we meander around the villages on the outskirts of Chiang Mai.
We explore the temple ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, the former capital of Lanna, before cycling back to Chiang Mai.
We will also visit a leper colony, now a rehabilitation centre, to gain insight into the activities of the missionaries in the days gone by.
The biking distance is around 25-30km of flat ground with 1.5km unsealed road , which takes around 4 ½ hours to cover with frequent stops. We provide helmets and comfortable adapted mountain bikes, with 24 gears and front suspension. Spend the afternoon. Overnight Stay at the Hotel
This is an action packed day. You will tackle the dirt tracks on your mountain bikes. This area is home to many ethnic hill tribes such as, Karen, Lahu, Lisu, Chan and Meow as well as large populations of domestic elephants and other wildlife. The Mae Taeng Valley provides views of lush jungle, local wildlife, and encounters with exotic hill tribes. It will be an unforgettable experience as you ride through colourful hill tribe villages, till you arrive at a picnic lunch spot. After refueling, it's time for white-water rafting on the Mae Taeng River and its 14 gorges. Originating high in the mountains, near the Burmese border, The Mae Taeng River winds its way through valleys and canyons, and is perfect to give you the adventure of your life in rafting. Overnight Stay at the Hotel.
