It was formerly a medieval Islamic mosque. The construction of the mosque began in the year 785. The building evolved over centuries and was added to by various Arab kings, it is therefore a mixture of different architectural styles. Inside, about 850 columns make for a repetitive motif of crisscrossing alleys not unlike the effect of a hall of mirrors.

After the visit to the mosque, enjoy a walk through to the Calleja de las Flores, located in the Jewish neighbourhood and from which you can see the tower of the cathedral.
