Independent Cycling Along the Danube

This cycling trip allows you to experience the beauty along the Danube river. The trip starts in Passau, Germany, the town of rivers, from where you cycle through various districts of Austria to finally reach Vienna. On this trip you will see the picturesque landscapes of Machland, Strudengau, and the Wachau while cycling along the Danube and sample several Austrian delicacies on your way! It is ideal for couples, singles, and families as the biking is mostly on cycle paths, most of which is flat including certain sections which are also downhill.

Day 1 : Arrive in Passau, Germany

Arrive in Passau and explore the "New Centre” of Passau, the town of three rivers.

Day 2 : Passau - Aschach/Brandstatt; Cycle (Approx. 70-80km)

Start your cycling trip along the river to Passau. You may like to visit to the cathedral to listen to the largest church organ in the world (closed on Sundays & holidays). Continue along the Danube via Obernzell to Engelhartszell, cycling through the nature reserve of Donauleiten, before reaching the Schlögen bend on its northern side.

Day 3 : Aschach/Brandstatt - Ardagger/Grein; Austria; Cycle (Approx. 80 km)

Ride through the Eferdinger Becken(basin) via Aschach, Ottensheim, and Wilhering to Linz. The highlights of today include the gorgeous views from Pöstlingberg and a stroll along the Danube. Continue towards Strudengau and Nibelungengau to Grein.

Day 4 : Ardagger/Grein - Krems; Cycle (Approx. 85 km)

As you ride from Grein along the Danube, look up to enjoy the sight of the Melk Abbey towering above the river. Cycle via the wine towns of Spitz and Weißenkirchen, and pass the ruins of Dürnstein castle to your hotel in Krems. Today, a wine tasting experience is especially organized for you.

Day 5 : Krems - Vienna; Cycle (Approx. 80 km)

Cycle from Krems via Traismauer and visit the Roman town of Tulln where you are likely to observe some tranquil rural culture before reaching Vienna. Enjoy a cup of "Verlängerter” coffee and a piece of Sachertorte cake at a Viennese coffee house, or visit the main attractions of the city during a ride with one of the famous "Fiaker”.

Day 6 : Departure from Vienna

Your cycling trip ends today but your vacation doesn't have to. You can extend your stay in Vienna or customise your trip further.
